A Day in the Life: Jonathan Tran, McIntire Student

2 months, 6 days, 1 hour or so...since I last updated my xanga. I don't know if anyone even checks my xanga anymore b/c I haven't been updating. Well, I guess most who do read my entries are subscribed to me. Anyways, here's a brief update on my first couple months of school. Who knows when I'll be updating again. Instead of blabbing on and on with paragraphs about what i've been doing, I'll try something new. Here's my past Wednesday (a somewhat typical day), given to you in VAULT style (haha, I don't know how many will get this...).

-----

A Day in the Life: Jonathan Tran, McIntire student

9:30am : This is about when I normally wake up. I brush my teeth, wash my face, get dressed. Then I check my email, make breakfast, turn on the CNBC and read the Wall Street Journal.

10:30am : Wait for the Orange bus line for 5 or so minutes. Or in some cases, go running after the bus screaming "Wait! Wait!".

10:50am : Arrive on campus. Go to Greenberry's to get coffee (I'll definitely need it for the day). I never drank coffee before Comm. school...Coincidence? I highly doubt it.

11:00-12:15pm : Intermediate Accounting class.

12:30pm : Go to Clemons library and check/respond to email. Read more of the WSJournal. Finish up some of the reading/review for next class.

1:30pm : Eat lunch at Newcomb.

2:00-4:45pm : Integrated Core Experience class.

5:15-6:30 pm : Mr. Roberts from Rolls-Royce (our corporate sponsor) came to give us an industry/company analysis of the Civil Aerospace arm of RR.

6:30-7:00pm : Comm. group meeting to work on one of the zillion group projects we're assigned. This doesn't even include our individual assignments... I see these people more than I see my suitemates, my friends/family, or gf. McIntire tries to tell us that they are like our third family, which kind of scares me. But in all seriousness, they are a cool bunch.

7:30pm : I wasn't lying...Now we have a Comm. group Team-Building meeting with Professor Akin. It's kind of like the Oprah Show, but without the free goodies.

8:15pm : Run home and get some dinner. Draft out agenda for meeting.

9:00-11:15pm : House meeting, where all the bizness gets done.

11:30-2:00am : Put up the "Imma STUDying" away message. Despite what many of you may think, during this time I really am studying.

2:00-3:00am : My favorite part of the day, talk to the gf :) She's is my daily stress-reliever. Muah.

3:00am - Shower, brush teeth, get ready for bed.

3:15-4:00am - Check/respond to email. Finish up studying for next day.

4:00am - Sleep, finally. I can't wait until the next day (sarcasm intended).

-----

Now this isn't my every day. But it's pretty close to it. Basically, this semester has been dominated by Comm. School and fraternity work. Of coures there are a bunch of other things I did during this Wednesday that I didn't write about. But for the first time in my life, I finally feel like my studies are directed. Sure it's a lot of work and it's hard, but I feel like it's paying off. It's odd, but most of the time I enjoy it. Downside is there's practically no time for movies, going to the gym, etc.

Hope this entry wasn't too boring. I just wanted to let everyone know I wasn't dead. I'm sorry if I don't get back to im's or phone calls sometimes. But hopefully everything's going swell with ya'll.

Let me know how things are going with YOU. As far as xanga, maybe I'll be back in say...another 2 months, 6 days, 1 hour or so???

Time to get back to studying. Gotta wake up in 6 hours for a, surprise surprise, comm. group meeting.

-Jonathan

P.S. Make sure you all take a break from midterms and such by coming out to our Star-Struck party October 15th. It's FREE for girls before 11:30pm. They'll be a lot of people out of town coming to this party.

Spades

So yesterday night Mabel and I were playing Spades on Yahoo Games (Yeah yeah yeah, call us dorks if you want). A few rounds before the end of the game, this is the hand I got...9 spades and two other aces...I bid 11. Her and I made our bid perfectly :)

Spades is a game whose success relies partially on luck, but also on skill and teamwork. As you see, I definitely had a couple fortunate hands. But more importantly, I had the best partner ;)

Final score: Robots, -200. Team Rock On, 559.

If any of you out there are looking for an intense, challenging, mind-straining game of Spades, let us know. We'll take you down any time, any place, any game room or table. It doesn't matter how much luck Mabel and I encounter that evening, we have all the skill and teamwork to make up for it.

Spades, it's not just a game, it's a way of life.

Part of an email my dad sent me:

----------

"Secrets of a Happy Life"

Go have fun in the meadows...

Avoid bad habits...

Always listen to good advice...

Always be alert and then wait. Perhaps what you're looking for, will find you...

Always be ready for any surprises in life...

Always look where you're going...

Be determined in achieving your goals...

Don't let the situation confuse you...

And most of all...SMILE!

----------

Speaking of smiling...This picture makes me smile like no other. :) muah.
